THE JINX – PART TWO: A RIVETING DIVE INTO ROBERT DURST’S DARK SAGA
In the shadowy realm of true crime, few figures loom as large and enigmatic as Robert Durst. His life, marked by wealth, murder allegations, and chilling confessions, has captivated audiences worldwide. Now, with the release of The Jinx – Part Two, filmmaker Andrew Jarecki invites us back into Durst’s twisted world.
A decade ago, HBO’s true crime docuseries, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, stunned viewers. Durst, a New York real estate heir, was suspected of three gruesome murders: his first wife, Kathleen McCormack, in 1982; his close friend Susan Berman in 2000; and an elderly Texas neighbor, Morris Black, in 2001. The series stood out not only for its chilling subject matter but also because Durst willingly appeared on camera, offering denials that would later unravel.
The original series culminated in a jaw-dropping revelation. During a hot-mic moment, Durst excused himself to the restroom and muttered the haunting words: “Killed them all.” Filmmaker Jarecki, during his research, uncovered additional evidence related to Berman’s death and shared it with authorities. Durst’s arrest followed swiftly, just a day before the last episode aired.
Fast forward to 2021, and Durst faced trial for Berman’s murder. He was convicted, but his story didn’t end there. The Jinx – Part Two picks up where the original left off, delving into the gaps between Durst’s arrest in March 2015 and his subsequent death in January 2022 (a mere three months after receiving a life sentence without parole).
Jarecki’s sequel is gripping, weaving together prosecutor John Lewin’s case and the twists of the trial. Yet, it lacks introspection about the filmmaker’s role in Durst’s fate. Jarecki reached out to law enforcement during his investigation—an unusual move for documentary filmmakers—but remains silent about his motivations. Why did he make that decision? The question lingers, unanswered.
The Jinx – Part Two immerses us in the dark corridors of justice, where truth and obsession collide. As we revisit Durst’s saga, we grapple with the complexities of storytelling, morality, and the haunting legacy of a man who uttered those fateful words: “Killed them all.” 🕵️♂️🔍🎥
