The 2024 Oscars

The 2024 Oscars, also known as the 96th Academy Awards, took place on a star-studded night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Hosted by the irreverent Jimmy Kimmel, the ceremony celebrated the best in film, from heart-wrenching dramas to dazzling musicals. Here are the highlights from the unforgettable evening.

Christopher Nolan’s epic historical drama “Oppenheimer” emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. The film, which chronicles the development of the atomic bomb during World War II, left audiences in awe with its gripping storytelling and stellar performances.

Scarlett Johansson, fresh off her successful stint as Senator Katie Britt on “SNL,” made a surprise appearance during the ceremony. She delivered a hilarious monologue poking fun at Hollywood’s obsession with superhero movies and her own dual role as Black Widow and Senator Britt.

The Best Actress category was a nail-biter, with Margot Robbie (“Barbie”) and Jessica Chastain (“Oppenheimer”) going head-to-head. In the end, Chastain’s portrayal of physicist Lise Meitner in “Oppenheimer” clinched the award, but Robbie’s iconic Barbie strut on the red carpet stole the show.

During the “In Memoriam” segment, Madonna took the stage to pay tribute to her late friend and fellow artist Prince. Her heartfelt rendition of “Purple Rain” left not a dry eye in the house. In a candid backstage interview, Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about her experience as a new mum, the Oscars also saw Billie Eilish become the first person born this century to win an Oscar, GRAMMY and Golden Globe for firm twice.

These were many of the highlights of the 2024 Oscars and be sure to go and watch it for the full show.
